About

We Love All Things Jazz!

This event welcomes anybody who has a deep love for the dances and culture of the vernacular jazz dance continuum like Jazz, Tap, Blues, Charleston, Lindy Hop, Hip Hop, Soul and many more. Jazz dance is known for its improvisational nature, rhythmic complexity, and personal expression. We welcome dancers from diverse backgrounds, skill levels, and ages, aiming to foster an environment that encourages collaboration and cultural exchange.  This year, we're thrilled to present a dance workshop that celebrates the rich diversity of vernacular jazz dance—because we love all things jazz! We’ll be exploring three vibrant art forms: Jazz Dance, Soft Shoe and Lindy Hop.

  • Jazz Dance honors the spirit of individuality, self-expression, and improvisation.
  • Soft Shoe is a style of tap dance performed without tap irons, focusing on smooth, rhythmic footwork.
  • Lindy Hop is the partnered form of vernacular jazz, bringing the joy of connection and shared rhythm

Saturday will be dedicated to your personal dance journey, featuring classes in solo dance (Jazz and Soft Shoe). Sunday will shift the focus to partnership, where you can bring your unique personality and skills into the dynamic, playful world of Lindy Hop.

For each dance style (Lindy Hop and Jazz Dance/Soft Shoe) you can choose between two tailored groups: Beauty of Basics or Deep Dive. Each group will take classes with all three of our outstanding teachers.

  • Beauty of Basics: Perfect for dancers looking to strengthen their foundation, this course focuses on the essentials—fundamental steps, key moves, and the core elements that make Jazz and Lindy Hop so captivating.
  • Deep Dive: For those seeking a challenge, this course offers an exploration of advanced techniques, rich dance vocabulary, and a deep connection to musicality. Hone your skills and take your dancing to new depths!

We invite you to sign up for both workshop days. By participating in all three dance styles, we hope you’ll experience a rich and diverse weekend of dance that challenges you in different ways. This approach offers a unique opportunity to explore the fascinating nuances and shades of jazz dance, and immerse yourself in its many forms. However, we also understand that you may have specific preferences and needs. If you prefer, you can choose to sign up for only Jazz Dance (includes Soft Shoe) or only Lindy Hop. For Lindy Hop classes, you can register as either a leader or a follower, and we'll ensure a balanced number of participants in each role.

Of course there will be plenty of opportunities for social dancing and connecting with the community over the weekend. On Saturday, we're teaming up with our friends at Swingwerkstatt for a special swing dance party: Cantina Swing meets Jazz Dance Fest! On Sunday after the workshop you can join the Sunday Stomp at Haus 73.

In whatever way you will be joining us for a fulfilling weekend of jazz dance, rhythm and community - we can’t wait to dance with you!

Cordula Decker

For over 20 years, Cordula has been working as a tap dancer and trainer for tap dance and jazz dance, teaching countless students from absolute beginners to professionals. Her journey began in Bavaria in a small tap dance group of a sports club, inspired by the films of Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly. Through numerous advanced trainings and travels to the masters of Rhythm TAP, she discovered the diverse and inspiring world of tap dance, which has since become her great passion.

After graduating from high school in Bavaria, Cordula began studying theater design in London, where she trained intensively in jazz, tap dance, and ballet. In 2001, she completed her stage performer training at the "Stage School" in Hamburg. Cordula has been teaching at Thomas Marek's Hamburg Tapdance Studio "Studio Footprints" since 2007, where she has been the school’s vice director since 2018. Cordula has performed in various productions as part of an ensemble, in duos, and as a soloist, including in Duke Ellington's "Sacred Concert." She has produced her own tap shows, such as "Tap im Park" and "Chameleon Tap Movie," and is a permanent member of the "Hargassner Mohr Band," with whom she has performed at venues such as "Birdland" in Hamburg.
